DOC Appoints New Warden at Augusta Correctional Center

RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of Daniel A. Braxton as Warden of August Correctional Center in Augusta County, effective December 25th.

Daniel A. Braxton began his career with the DOC in 1981 as a Corrections Officer at Buckingham Correctional Center.  He has served in numerous capacities including the position of Corrections Sergeant at Buckingham Correctional Center; Corrections Lieutenant, Corrections Captain and Chief of Security at Augusta Correctional Center; Assistant Warden at Keen Mountain Correctional Center; Warden at Dillwyn Correctional Center; and Warden at Buckingham Correctional Center.  In 2001 Braxton was appointed Warden of Red Onion State Prison and he recently served as temporary Warden at Wallens Ridge State. 

He received DOC Academy for Staff Development Advanced Officer Training in 1983 and National Institute of Corrections Prison Security Training in 1992.

Braxton replaces Tracy S. Ray who recently assumed the position of Warden at Red Onion State Prison in Wise County.

“Dan Braxton has proven himself very capable in his role as Warden,” said Director Johnson.  “I know he will put all of his experience to use in heading up Augusta Correctional Center.”
