RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of David Robinson as Warden of Wallens Ridge State Prison in Wise County and Tracy S. Ray as Warden of Red Onion State Prison in Wise County, effective immediately.
David Robinson began his career with the DOC in 1982 as a Corrections Sergeant at Brunswick Correctional Center. He has served in numerous capacities including the position of Assistant Superintendent at Rustburg Correctional Center, Certification Specialist at DOC Headquarters, and Operations Officer and Assistant Warden at Nottoway Correctional Center. In 1995 Robinson was appointed Warden at Nottoway Correctional Center. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Robinson replaces Stanley K. Young who will assume the position of Warden at the new correctional facility in Tazewell County that is currently under development.
Tracy S. Ray began his career as a Counselor at the former Culpeper Unit #11 in 1990. During his tenure with the DOC, his assignments have included Treatment Program Supervisor at Keen Mountain Correctional Center and Assistant Warden at Coffeewood Correctional Center, Powhatan Correctional Center and James River Correctional Center. He is currently Warden at Augusta Correctional Center. Ray received a degree in Psychology from Northeastern State University.
Ray replaces Daniel A. Braxton who left Red Onion in November to assume the temporary position of Warden at Wallens Ridge State Prison.
