RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections Director Gene Johnson announced the successful implementation of Operation Consequences XXV, a massive unannounced substance abuse testing effort of targeted parolees and probationers on Thursday, October 30, 2003, in the City of Radford.
This twenty-fifth mass testing in the state was conducted at the Adult Probation and Parole District #28 Office in Radford in close coordination with local law enforcement agencies and other Department of Corrections staff including DOC K-9 officers.
The sixty (60 targeted offenders possessed a history of substance abuse and violent offenses. They also had prior drug tests and are suspected of continuing substance abuse. Thirteen (13) of the parolees and probationers tested positive and were arrested and taken to jail with violation proceedings to commence in the sentencing court. Nine (9) probationers and parolees failed to show up and will be aggressively sought by law enforcement. No serious incidents were reported and the operation was considered a major success
