RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced effective today the appointment of Melanie S. Parr to the position of Superintendent at Pulaski Correctional Unit #1 (PCU) in Pulaski County.
“With her vast knowledge and proven track record in Corrections, Melanie understands the leadership needs at Pulaski,” said Director Johnson. “I know the staff join me in congratulating Melanie.”
Parr began her career in June 1991 as a counselor at PCU. In 1993 she assumed a counselor position at Botetourt Correctional Unit #25. Parr was promoted to Regional Ombudsman for the Western Regional Office in Roanoke in September 1993 and in October 1994 she became the Employee Ombudsman in the Western Regional Office. In July 1997 Parr was promoted to Regional Programs Manager for the Western Region. She has been Regional Operations Manager for the DOC Western Regional Office since June 2002. Parr received a degree in Child Psychology from Penn State University in 1987.
Pulaski Correctional Unit #1, opened in 1955, is a Level 1 (low security) male facility with an average daily population of 400 inmates. The facility is located on 52 acres near Dublin, Virginia.
