DOC Appoints New Warden at Augusta Correctional Center

RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of Tracy Ray as Warden of Augusta Correctional Center (ACC) in Augusta County, effective April 10, 2003.

 “With his vast experience in rehabilitation and treatment, Tracy is well known for his professionalism and leadership ability,” said Director Johnson.  “I’m sure DOC employees around the state join me in congratulating him.”

Ray is a former Oklahoma youth counselor and mental health social worker.  In 1990 he began his DOC career as a rehabilitative counselor in Culpeper and Stafford.  Ray experience includes treatment program supervisor at Keen Mountain Correctional Center and Coffeewood Correctional Center.  He previously had held the position of Assistant Warden at Powhatan Correctional Center.  Since 2002, Ray has held the position of Assistant Warden at Coffeewood Correctional Center.  Ray is a graduate of Northeastern State University with a degree in Psychology.

Opened in 1986, ACC is a security Level 3 (medium) male facility with an average daily inmate population of 1,100.

Ray replaces George Hinkle who assumed the position of Warden at Greensville Correctional Center.
