RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of Ms. N. H. "Cookie" Scott as Deputy Director of Administration effective November 10, 2002. Scott has nearly 30 years experience in corrections and will fill a position as Deputy Director that opened following Governor Warner's October appointment of Gene Johnson as Director.
"It is with a great deal of pleasure that I announce the appointment of 'Cookie' Scott as the new Deputy Director for Administration," said Director Johnson. "'Cookie' brings a fresh and energetic approach along with a wealth of knowledge and understanding to this position."
Scott currently works in DOC Human Resources as the Manager of the Department's Recruitment, Benefits and Employment Services program.
"I am excited about this new opportunity," said Scott. "And I am eagerly looking forward to working with the best group of professionals in the field of corrections."
Scott began her corrections career in 1973 as a Probation Officer in the Sixteenth District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Charlottesville. She rose to become the Director of Court Services for the Sixteenth District before being promoted to Employment Manager Senior in 1988 and coming to DOC headquarters in Richmond. Scott received a B.A. in Sociology from Longwood University.
