POUND – The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) has confirmed that an inmate at Red Onion State Prison in Wise County died early Sunday morning, May 19, 2002. The DOC Inspector General’s Office is conducting an investigation.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. in an inmate housing unit. Correctional Officers immediately secured the area and called for medical assistance. Next of kin were notified and the body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsy.
The deceased inmate has been identified as Kenneth Wayne Boothe, Jr. Boothe, 29, was serving a 17 year, 6 month sentence dating back to 1996 which included assault, arson, weapons charges, forcible sodomy, and parole violation in Smyth County.
