RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Ron Angelone is pleased to announce that the DOC received top honors from the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for DOC participation in the October, 2001 FOP Public Safety Day at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. The Best of Show plaques were awarded the DOC last night during the FOP Public Safety Day Awards Reception and Banquet at the John Marshall FOP Lodge in Richmond.
“It is indeed an honor to receive these awards on behalf of the men and women from this Department who participated in this outstanding event to raise awareness of public safety issues,” said Director Angelone. “This only reaffirms my strong belief that the Virginia Department of Corrections is one of the best public safety organizations in the country.”
The DOC won Best of Show plaques for “Top Overall Display” and “Tactical Demonstration.” DOC participating facilities were Deep Meadow Correctional Center Strike Force Team, Central Region K-9 Units (drug and tracking dogs), Mobile Command Center and equipment from State Farm Training Center, Powhatan Correctional Center Human Resources, and the Human Resources Recruitment Office from DOC headquarters in Richmond.
The October 20, 2001 State Public Safety Day included representatives from federal, state and local public safety departments. The 2002 Public Safety Day is scheduled for November 2nd at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
