ACA Accredits More VA DOC Prison Facilities
- Highest Accreditation Possible on the National Level -

RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Ron Angelone announced today that Botetourt Correctional Unit, Greensville Correctional Center, Deerfield Correctional Center and Nottoway Correctional Center have been awarded accreditation with the American Correctional Association (ACA). Both Botetourt and Deerfield accomplished 100 percent compliance, being the first facilities in the state to reach this level of achievement. Earlier this year Lunenburg Correctional Center and Roanoke Day Reporting Center were also awarded accreditation.

“The achievement of these facilities exemplifies the commitment of Department staff to provide an environment that protects the public yet ensures the life, health, and safety of staff and offenders” said Director Angelone. “This is another indication that Virginia is clearly balancing inmate treatment and education with security and safety issues. I commend each and every employee for their continued commitment to this goal.”

The ACA accreditation program is a professional peer review process based on national standards that have evolved since the founding of the ACA in 1870. These standards were developed by national leaders in the field of corrections and include experts in law, architecture, health care, and other groups interested in sound correctional management.

Other previously accredited facilities in Virginia include Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, Sussex I State Prison, Sussex II State Prison, Southampton Men's Detention Center, statewide Adult Probation and Parole Services, Red Onion State Prison and Wallens Ridge State Prison.
