Virginia DOC Appoints New Warden at Lunenburg Correctional Center

RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of Carole F. Wallace to the position of Chief Warden at Lunenburg Correctional Center in Lunenburg County effective December 25, 2002.

“With her vast knowledge and proven track record in corrections, Carole perfectly matches the leadership needs at Lunenburg,” said Director Johnson.  “I know the Lunenburg staff join me in congratulating Carole.”

Wallace has been Assistant Warden for Operations at Lunenburg since June 1995 and has been Acting Warden since the recent retirement of Warden Dan Larsen.

Wallace began her career in 1971 as a Probation & Parole Officer in Arlington.  Her experience includes Rehabilitation Counselor and Treatment Program Supervisor at Southampton Correctional Center, Manager of Planning and Programs in the DOC Central Regional Offices, Institutional Rehabilitative Supervisor and Assistant Warden at Virginia Correctional Center for Women, and Assistant Superintendent at Rustburg Correctional Unit.  Wallace received a B.A. in Psychology from Muhlenberg College and an M.A. in Education from George Washington University.  She is married to the Reverend Wiley P. Wallace and has 1 child and 3 stepchildren.

Lunenburg Correctional Center, opened in 1995, is a security Level 2 (low-medium) male facility with an average daily population of 1,200 inmates.
