Project SOAR Celebrates Graduation at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) held a graduation ceremony today for Project SOAR (Supporting Offenders After Release) at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake. Both Indian Creek Correctional Center and St. Brides Correctional Center, the pilot facilities for this re-entry program, were involved in the joint graduation.
It's always a pleasure to see a program such as Project SOAR making a difference in the attitude and expectations of ex-offenders as they prepare to re-enter society," said DOC Director Gene M. Johnson. "Project SOAR gives the necessary direction and sense of hope that every offender needs. It's that sense of community and family that many of us take for granted but so necessary to produce a responsible member of society."
Project SOAR is a statewide volunteer partnership between the Faith Community, and DOC, through pre-and post-release programs, Project SOAR focuses on assisting adult nonviolent inmates/ex offenders to re-enter society successfully and become productive citizens.
Project SOAR has strong support in communities statewide, in large measure because of the faith community's involvement.
