Inmate Walks Away From Powhatan Correctional Center

inmate Burnic Sprouse, RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) has confirmed that a male inmate from James River Correctional Center (JRCC) walked away today from his work assignment at the Powhatan Correctional Center (PCC) in Powhatan County. The inmate was initially reported missing from his assigned work detail around noon.

The inmate is identified as Burnic F. Sprouse, Jr., a 29 year-old white male, 5’ 10” tall, 160 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. He is a Level Two, medium-security inmate, convicted between 1991 and 1994 and serving a 35-year, 17-month sentence for multiple counts of Grand Larceny, Breaking and Entering and Trespassing in Halifax, Albemarle, Fluvanna and Greene Counties. Sprouse has been assigned to JRCC since January 1999. He has been parole eligible since April 2000 and was due for mandatory release in July 2010.

Sprouse is not considered dangerous and he has not been a disciplinary problem since his incarceration at JRCC.

DOC is cooperating fully with state and local law enforcement authorities in the apprehension of this inmate. Please contact law enforcement authorities immediately if you have any information that may lead to the apprehension of this inmate.
