James River Correctional Center Inmate Apprehended

inmate Burnic Sprouse, RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) has confirmed that James River Correctional Center (JRCC) inmate Burnic F. Sprouse, Jr. was apprehended yesterday evening, December 10, 2001, at approximately 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in Waynesboro. Sprouse walked away from a work detail at Powhatan Correctional Center on Wednesday, November 14, 2001.

Earlier in the day the Waynesboro Police Department received a tip regarding Sprouse’s location. Waynesboro Police then contacted DOC investigators to assist in surveillance and the eventual arrest. No injuries were involved in the apprehension. Sprouse is currently in custody in the Augusta County Jail.

Arrested with Sprouse was a female identified as Victoria Paige Attkisson. Attkisson has been charged with Aiding Escape. She is also being held at the Augusta County Jail.

Sprouse is serving a 35-year, 17-month sentence for multiple counts of Grand Larceny, Breaking and Entering and Trespassing in Halifax, Albemarle, Fluvanna and Greene Counties. Sprouse has been assigned to JRCC since January 1999. He is being charged with Escape. Other charges may be filed against Sprouse and Attkisson pending the outcome of this investigation.

The Virginia Department of Corrections wishes to thank the Waynesboro Police Department, Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in apprehending Burnic F. Sprouse, Jr.
