Community Corrections - Out of State Supervision

Interstate Compact
The Interstate Compact for the supervision of parolees and probationers is an agreement between all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The Compact has the consent of Congress and provides for the sole statutory authority for regulating the transfer of adult probation and parole supervision across state lines.

The Virginia Interstate Compact Unit acts as a central authority in the regulation of interstate transfer of adult offenders on community-based supervision.

Offender Eligibility

• Be a resident of or have family residing within the receiving state and have employment there. (the offender must have actually maintained residence in the requested state continuously for more than one year prior to sentencing on the current offense being supervised)
• If not a resident of the receiving state and no family there, the receiving state consents to such a person being sent to their state.

Interstate Compact is a viable supervision tool which contributes to the offender's success and reduced likelihood of future criminal activity by providing an opportunity to seek improved residence, employment and social circumstances.
