Special Purpose Institution - Mecklenburg Correctional Center, Powhatan Reception Center and Deep Meadow Correctional Center are reception and classification facilities. Their role is to intake offenders from the local jails and process them into the Department. Each of these facilities houses inmates classified to multiple levels of security.

Directions From Richmond:
Take I-95 South to Petersburg. From there, take I-85 Southwest to South Hill (U.S. Route 58 exit). Go West on U.S. Route 58 about 15 miles, turn left onto State Route 386 South, go about 1 mile; the Center will be straight ahead.
