How to Apply
To apply for a position as a Corrections Officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections you must complete a Commonwealth of Virginia, State Application form.
Please keep these important points in mind:
- The individual who reviews your application knows only as much as your application reflects.
- Is your application complete? Does it reflect your work experience as related to the particular job for which you are applying?
- Applications for a Corrections Officer position do not require a position number.
- Education: Complete all portions of this section and provide the name and location of all schools attended (high school and post high school).
- Experience: List your complete employment history beginning with your current position, relating your experiences to the position for which you are applying. Please be explicit. Your documentation may determine whether you are offered an interview.
- References: Provide references from persons who know your job qualifications.
- Complete all questions under the "miscellaneous" section. Be sure to include all criminal and traffic violations in the section regarding convictions of law violations.
- Please submit a complete application and remember to sign and date the application. An incomplete application may be returned to you.
- Applications for Corrections Officer positions should be mailed directly to the facility of interest to you (see the Facilities section).
- Applications may be obtained by contacting the Virginia Department of Corrections' Human Resources, any Corrections facility, your local Virginia Employment Commission or downloaded from the Internet through (an external website) the Dept. of Human Resource Management: State Application Form.
