Research & Management Services

Research and Management Services Unit enhances the effectiveness of the Department of Corrections by providing research, planning and evaluation services to the Director, Executive Staff, Board of Corrections, operating units and key stakeholders in Virginia government agencies.

Research and Management Services analyzes proposed legislation to determine the potential bed space and corresponding fiscal impact on the Department of Corrections. A link to the Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly (Legislative Services) has been provided to access pending legislation.

Research, Evaluation and Forecast Unit

The Research, Evaluation and Forecast Unit is responsible for the planning and development of institutional and community corrections population forecasts. The Section also researches, develops and publishes statistical reports on corrections populations and programs.

Disciplinary Appeals Unit

The Disciplinary Appeals Unit is responsible for reviewing all disciplinary appeals submitted to the Regional Directors. The Unit also provides technical support and training to staff on inmate discipline. The unit further monitors the disciplinary process across the state and makes recommendations for procedural revisions as necessary.

Ombudsman Services Unit

The Ombudsman Services Unit is responsible for assisting management and administration in providing quality assurance to curtail unnecessary inmate litigation and unnecessary expenses to the citizens of Virginia by monitoring the Department's Inmate Grievance Procedure and providing investigative services for Levels I and II of the Procedure
